Banana bread: What's YOUR favorite recipe?

Toast

My local store is selling bananas for 33 cents/lb. today, so this weekend I'm definitely making banana bread! My favorite recipe is one from James Beard, but there are lots out there - which one is your favorite?

If you have other favorite banana-related recipes, let me know those, too!

I have sourdough starter and I do love an old cookbook... and I notice that same cookbook has a recipe for sourdough bannock bread, which is probably a cousin to the sourdough pan de campo I made last week, so it almost seems to be destined that I make the banana bread from that book! Thanks for recommending it!

And I have made all of these numerous times. I am always on the lookout for delicious breads that aren't too heavy on the fats but are full of good flavor and moist. These all fit the bill. Here is a link to a fantastic applesauce quick bread that I make all the time. Summer apples are wonderful now and soon it will be Fall. I make my own applesauce .

Notice only 1/4 c oil and I use buttermilk for the milk. I 3x the recipe and bake in 4 8"x4" pans. Very very moist !! I make a spice blend with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and nutmeg and grind whole spices together. You can substitute banana mashed or other fruit for the applesauce and change the spices. Very versatile and always comes out delicious
